JOB done! Zambia were made to work for the three points in the 4-2 win over Congo Brazzaville in a Group E match of the 2026 World Cup Qualifier at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Zambia’s front three of Patson Daka, Lameck Banda and Fashion Sakala scored a goal each to give Zambia an idea start to the qualifiers.
In the opening four minutes, things were going to script for Chipolopolo who were headed into the lead by Daka from an Emmanuel Banda cross.
However, Congo, who only arrived in Zambia 14:00hours before kick off posed a scare when they equalized though Silvere Ganvoula in the 13th minute.
Before Zambia could recover from losing their lead, the visitors added a second when Mons Bassouamina beat Francis Mwansa in the Zambia goal.
At this point in the game, Congo summoned their delaying tactics to frustrate Zambia who were backed by a partizan crowed.
With the game poised to head into half time in favour of the visitors, Lameck Banda provided some spectacular display to restor parity for Zambia.
The Italy based winger beat a defender before shooting from a tight angle in the 43rd minute to bring the match to 2-all.
In the second half, ZambIa gained some control of the game and they were gifted with lead in the 69th minute.
Fashion Sakala turned in a Banda cross to give Zambia it’s third.
In the 89th minute, there was still time for Daka to complete his brace and take the score line to 4-2 in favour of Zambia.
The team has now shifted focus to the next game against Niger which will be played on Tuesday in Morocco.
