UNICAF University Zambia’s inaugural Women’s Summit

Published

on

Unicaf University Zambia organized its inaugural Women’s Summit on the theme of Empowering Women to Make a Change.

Since the African continent is home to the highest percentage of female entrepreneurs globally who contribute significantly to their community’s growth and prosperity, this Women’s Summit was an opportunity to analyze and dissect the progress achieved towards women’s empowerment and gender equality.

Bringing together a panel of women from different sectors of the workplace and attended virtually by eighty participants over the course of two days, lively debates ranged from highlighting the challenges and hurdles women face in their respective roles to under-representation and empowerment in leadership positions.

There was an interactive question and answer session during the summit where participants were able to direct their questions to the panel. Of particular interest was the discussion on some of the attitudes and biased perspectives from society towards women in leadership roles. It was generally agreed that as soon as certain hurdles could be overcome then women’s empowerment is achievable.

Attendees commended Unicaf University in Zambia for hosting the virtual two day event as it was seen as an important platform to exchange views and to further the women’s empowerment agenda.

Day 1 speakers:

Nkhonde Fumbeshi, CEO at Money FM

Phyllis Mbayi, Business Executive Lead at WEAC

Day 2 speakers:

Daisy Kopolo, CEO at Platinum Black

Dr Christine Mushibwe, Vice Chancellor at Unicaf University Zambia

Chinese and Zambian pupils shared a splendid online class recently. Pupils at Nachitete School, funded and constructed by CNBM Zambia Industrial Park, connected with students from Chengnan Primary School of Yongshan County in Zhaotong City of China’s Yunnan Province online, promoting friendship through the pleasant communication under the guidance of CNBM volunteers.

Volunteers brought well-prepared stationery to pupils, and encouraged them to greet Chinese pupils in English and Chinese. Then both sides sang the well-known song “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” together and sent sincere wishes to each other. This class improved understanding between Chinese and Zambian children, and sowed the seed of the China-Zambia friendship in their hearts.
