THE President of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to be in the country for a three day State visit.
During the, Her Excellency,Dr Hassan is expected to engage in substantive discussions with President Hakainde Hichilema, covering topics such as bilateral relations, regional and global affairs.
The visit is from today, October 23rd up until October 25th on Wednesday.
Minister of Home Affairs and International Cooperation Stanley Kakubo who confirmed the visit by the Tanzanian Head of State said the visit is at the invitation of President Hichilema.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation wishes to inform the nation that Her Excellency Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, is set to embark on a State visit to Zambia from October 23rd to 25th, 2023, at the invitation of Mr Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia.”
“During the visit, the two leaders are expected to engage in substantive discussions covering a range of topics, including bilateral, regional, and global affairs. The discussions will build on the State visit undertaken to Tanzania by President Hichilema in August 2022,” he said.
Mr Kakubo said central to the agenda will be crucial infrastructure projects that link Zambia and Tanzania, including the Tanzania Zambia Railways (TAZARA), Tanzania Zambia Mafuta Pipelines Limited (TAZAMA) and the Nakonde-Tunduma One-Stop Border Post.
He said the bilateral talks will culminate into the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) in key sectors such as Trade, Investment, Energy, and Defence.
“President Samia is scheduled to grace the 59th Independence Celebrations in Lusaka, and later officiate at the Zambia-Tanzania Business Forum. Further, President Samia will address the National Assembly of Zambia on Wednesday, October 25th, 2023. Zambia and Tanzania share deep-rooted historical bonds, with their bilateral relations firmly grounded in the shared history of the liberation struggle,” he said.
Mr Kakubo said the visit by President Samia, therefore, presents an excellent opportunity for Zambia to consolidate its partnership with Tanzania, focusing on pragmatic cooperation that will stimulate trade, foster investment, and ultimately unlock economic opportunities for the people of Zambia.
