SHADERICK Kasanda and three others are scheduled to take a fresh plea before the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court in connection with a failed mineral deal and obtaining money by false pretenses.
This case involves about US$1million dollars.
When the case came up for fresh plea yesterday, the accused persons were not before court and the case was adjourned.
The other suspects jointly charged with Kasanda, 33, are
Dominic Twinjika, Salama Park, businessman, Treasure Malandak a, 34, businessman and Luwowoshi Mining Limited.
Allegations are that between November 1,2020 and December 30, 2020, Twinjika, with intent to deceive, obtained US$9,045 from Anton Russell by falsely pretending that it was for storage and transportation of cobalt when infact not.
In the second count, allegations are that between the same dates, the four accused obtained US$72,160 from Mr Russell by falsely pretending that they had 82kilogrammes gold for sale, when infact not.
In count three, allegations are that between the same dates, the four accused, with intent to deceive, obtained US16, 000 cash from Mr Russell by falsely pretending that they had 107kg gold for sale.
In the fourth count, allegations are that between the same dates, the accused obtained US$360,000 from Mr Russell.
The accaued got the money by falsely pretending that the money would be paid to Zambia Revenue Authority for mineral tax clearance certificate for the export of 82kg when infact not.
In the fifth count, allegations are that between the same dates, the four obtained US124, 000 from Mr Russell.
They got the money by falsely pretending that the money was for catering a plane from Lusaka to Dubai, when infact not.
Kasanda and five others are reportedly expected to appear before magistrate Kawama Mwamfuli for possible plea following reallocation of the case.
This case actually started in 2020 but the magistrate who was initially handling it was transfered and it had been reallocated twice.
