PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has implored to all Patriotic Front (PF) members to exhibit exemplary conduct as the country approach the General Elections.
He said this yesterday when addressing PF officials during the official opening of the Northern Province party convention.
President Lungu said exemplary behaviour is inevitable because the has an onerous task to defend the existence as the ruling party.
“we have to attract the masses to the party before elections are held. and the party here in northern province has a pivotal role to play to achieve this.
And you are going to do this by outlining what the party has done since it came into power and its vision beyond elections,” he said.
The President also warned perpetrators of criminal activities under the guise of the party that once found wanting the shall waste no time to part company with them.
He has since directed the secretary general to prioritise political education in the party, from the lowest unit to the high unit.
President Lungu said the party should strive to ensure that the party is not separated from the people from whom they draw the mandate to serve.
“As we head towards the General Election, leadership is crucial for us. we must never manipulate our popularity as a party, or circumvent the process of leadership selection. nor should we impose leadership on the general membership of the party,” he said.
President Lungu further extended an invitation to the youth to come on board as partners and architects in designing that desired and shared future.
“In our quest to foster national development, we will not leave behind the youth. this is why we are resolved to taking empowerment to a new level that will see the rural and urban youth alike, of both genders dominating all sectors of zambia’s socio-economic development,” he said.
And the President said Zambia will overcome its economic challenges.
He warned Zambians against being swayed by doomsayers, especially those without any experience in governance.
“Do not listen to naysayers and prophets of doom. They have never run government before. We may look humble but we will ensure that Zambia prospers,” President Lungu said.
