Police find body near KKIA, foul play suspected

POLICE in Lusaka have picked up a unidentified body of a male adult aged between 18 and 25 years old.

The body was picked up on Sunday, 6th August, 2017 at about 15:00 hours near a wall fence at the National Research Institute area along the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport road.

Police Spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo in a statement said the body was discovered with partially burnt clothes as it was found in burning grass and had injuries on the head with blood coming from the nose.

“The body was deposited in UTH mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem,” said Katongo.

“We therefore appeal to members of the public who could be missing a relative to visit UTH and help identify the body.”

And Katongo said Police suspect a foul play whilst investigations into the matter have been instituted .

Mpongwe boyfriend sets ablaze girlfriends house on fire after a dispute, police say

A 41-year-old man of Mpongwe has been arrested for setting ablaze his 45-year-old girlfriends house after a dispute.

Mumba Fortunatious who has been staying with Maureen Mwendela for about five months resorted to setting on fire her house hold goods valued at K32,950 after the two quarrelled.

Copperbelt commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said police received a report of arson which occurred between Monday and yesterday around 20:00 hours.

“Maureen reported that her house was set ablaze by her boyfriend Mumba whom she stays with and this was after they had a dispute and property (house hold goods) which included Sofas bed, matress, a Television Set, bedings and others altogether valued at K32,950.00 were burnt to ashes. Brief facts of the matter are that the suspect has been staying at the complainants house for the past five months, so on Monday at 20:00hours the two had a dispute so the complainant decided to leave the house stating that the suspect was drunk and was disturbing her sleep. After leaving her house she informed her sister who stays in the neighborhood that she was going to seek refuge at her brothers’ house within Mpongwe and she left,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said around 03:00 hours the sister to the complainant was awakened by unusual sounds from outside and when she went outside she found her sister’s house on fire.

“With the help of neighbours, they managed to put off the fire ,but the above mentioned property were burnt to ashes. Police visited the scene of crime and confirmed the matter. The suspect Mumba has been apprehended and he will appear in court soon,” he said

Woman found naked, chained to a tree at the Freedom Statue in Lusaka, police say

POLICE in Lusaka are holding a 28-year-old woman identified as Dorcas Nachibona of Emmasdale Site and Service who was found chained to a tree at the Freedom Statue.

In a statement, police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale said Ms Nachibona was found naked and in a drunken state.

“She was discovered today around 06:00 hours at the Freedom Statue by a member of the public who later called the Police,” he said.

Mr Mwale said when interviewed, Ms Nachibona disclosed that she was drinking the whole night with her female friend who she cannot identify.

He said police have since instituted investigations into the matter.

81-year-old bambuya in court over marijuana

AN 81-YEAR-OLD man of Kavuma Village in Waterfalls in Lusaka has appeared before a magistrate in connection with the offence of trafficking in almost 40 grammes of marijuana.

When the case first came up, But since Tie Mwape, pleaded guilty before the chief resident magistrate in Lusaka.

Mwape is charged with trafficking in psychotropic substances, an offence attracting upto 25 years’ maximum.

Allegations are that on November 26 this year, Mwape trafficked in 36 grammes of marijuana, a herbal product of cannabis sativa without lawful authority.

When the matter came up yesterday, a State prosecutor told the court that the matter was coming up for reading of the facts but the same could not be done since the magistrate trying the case was not available.

The prosecutor then asked for an adjournment as the accused raised his hand to say something.

“In remand, I may be killed,” Mwape said as the magistrate guided him that his concerns will be addressed by the court trying his case which was adjourned to December 12, 2022.

Allegations are that police officers found the drugs at Mwape’s house where they were investigating a case in which he was suspected to be in possession of stolen property.
