Police detain Chilufya Tayali

POLICE in Lusaka have arrested Economic and Equity Party President, Chilufya Tayali for the offence of Defamation of the President.

Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said Mr Tayali’s follows a video which went viral on social media in which he made derogatory remarks against President Edgar Lungu.

“He is detained in police custody for the subject offence,” she said.

And after his arrest,  Mr. Tayali wrote on his Facebook page that police apprehended him because of his ‘few’ criticism against the Head of State.

“Just because of a few criticisms on President Lungu, they have arrested me. I guess they don’t want me on the ballot,” reads his post.

Police arrest five fake Correctional Services Officers in Kitwe

FIVE people have been arrested in Kitwe for personating as Correctional Services Officers after they attempted to swindle AC Mining Company as part of the fundraising for the Correctional Service.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Elias Chushi said putting on Zambia Correctional Service uniforms, the five claimed to have been sent by the command at Kamfinsa Correctional Facility.

He said the suspects were spotted by a Zambia Correctional Service officer.

“On June 1, 2021 around 15:30 hours at AC Mining Company near Jamas Milling in Heavy Industrial area, Kitwe. Stanley Bwembya 31, a Correctional Officer at Kamfinsa Correctional facility, Kitwe reported having brought in five male persons who were found putting on Zambia Correctional Services Uniform and were impersonating a Correctional officer at AC Mining Company.

The suspects went to ask for money from AC Mining Company purporting that they were sent by Kamfinsa Correctional Facility Command to fundraise transport funds for released prisoners when in fact not,” Mr Chushi said.

Mr Chushi identified the suspects are Connelious Mutale 32, of House number 2 Bupe teachers compound Kitwe, Boniface Mwape 56, of House number 5640, Mulenga overspill Kitwe, John Musonda 40, of House number 22 CBU Teachers Compound Kitwe, Haggai Matanda 30 of unmarked House in Chamboli Kitwe, and Misheck Bwalya 28 of house PP 50 Wuskile Township Kitwe.

“They were driving a motor vehicle Toyota corolla registration ADC 3850 silver in colour. Upon interviewing the same group, they are claiming to be from the Correction Services Fellowship of Zambia. However, investigations into the matter have continued and the police want to establish how many companies and individuals have fallen victims at the hand of these criminals,” he said

Man arrested for biting a nipple off his wife’s breast as they were asleep, police say

A 34-YEAR-OLD man of Rufunsa district has been arrested for ripping his wife’s breast leaving nipples completely cut off.
However, Benson Mwanjeleka claims he did not intentionally rip her breast but that he was dreaming.
In a media statement issued to Mwebantu, police spokesperson Esther Katongo Mwanjeleka has been arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm.
“Police in chongwe district have recorded a report of grievous bodily harm which is alleged to have occurred on 31st, may, 2021 around 2230 hours at Mwachifumu village in chief Bunda Bunda of Rufunsa district in which Christine Galufu aged 33 of the above address reported that she was grievously harmed by her husband identified as Mwanjeleka of the same address. The victim had her left breast nipple completely cut off,” Mrs Katongo said.
She said the incident is reported to have occurred when the victim and her husband now suspect were asleep and the husband woke up and bit her breast claiming that he was dreaming.
Mrs Katongo said the victim has been issued with a medical report form for medical attention while the nipple was taken to hospital for disposal.
She said Mwanjeleka is in police custody for the subject offence.

Couple shot in Kalumbila over allegations of practising witchcraft, police say.

A COUPLE  of Kalumbila district in Northwestern province has been shot resulting in the death of the husband and wounding the wife over allegations of practising witchcraft.

Police  spokesperson Esther Katongo  said in a statement that that the victims who have been identified as Royd Katontoka aged 67 and  Mary Katontoka 52  were shot using an unknown type of firearm  by two identified assailants whose identities we have withheld.

“Police in North western Province are looking for two identified suspects  in connection with murder and attempted murder involving a couple which occurred on 28th May, 2021  around 1830 hours at Kinema  Village in Chief Musele of Kalumbila District,” she said.

Mrs Katongo said Mr Katontoka sustained  gunshot wounds on the belly and on his back while the wife sustained four deep wounds on her left leg.

She said when police who visited the scene found they found Mr Katontoka in unconscious state  while his wife was found with four bullets wounds on her left  leg.

“Both victims were rushed to Kankozhi Clinic where Mr Katontoka was pronounced dead and his wife was reffered to Lumwana Hospital. Dockets of Murder and Attempted Murder have been opened. A manhunt has been launched,” Mrs Katongo.

Meanwhile othe Copperbelt, police have arrested a female juvenile adult aged 19 for attempted child destruction.

The incident occurred  on 28th May, 2021 around 04:00 hours at Kanyenda area of Mpongwe District.

Mrs Katongo  said a report was recieved from  a 51 year old member of the community  that the juvenile had dumped a baby in a pit latrine after giving birth.

“The suspect is alleged to have delivered the child at her village under a mango tree around 0400 hours and dumped in a pit latrine which was about 5meters deep at a neighbours house located approximately  500 meters from her house.  The dumped baby was discovered by the owner of the house, who after going to the pit laterine,   heard a baby crying from the latrine hole. The baby girl was retrieved by residents  and  was rushed to Mpongwe Mission Hospital where it is admitted and it’s condition has been described as stable by health practitioners.  Innitial investigations led to the arrest of the suspect who was also taken to a health facility for medical attention and has been admitted under police guard,” she said.
