POLICE have charged and arrested United Party for National Development (UPND) Lusaka district information and Publicity Secretary Matomola Likwanya for proposing violence.
Likwanya 29 of house number C 137 Misisi compound was arrested on March 17, this year.
Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale said in a statement that Likwanya was picked in connection with a video which went viral on social media on March 17, 2021 where he streamed live on his Facebook page with a group of people and violence was being proposed.
Mr Mwale said Likwanya also used derogatory statements against the Republican President.
“At the time of his arrest, the suspect was found with a teaser and 23 UPND membership cards,” he said.
Mr Mwape said Likwanya is currently detained in Police custody.
Police launch manhunt for mother who abandoned new-born
POLICE in Choma, Southern Province are searching for a mother of a new-born baby discovered abandoned in a bush.
Yesterday, a new-born baby was found with maggots clinging to its umbilical cord in the bush.
Police have since taken the baby to the hospital for treatment, while investigations have been launched to locate the mother.
Southern Province commanding officer Auxensio Daka said the report was received on yesterday around 12:10 hours.
He said the incident was reported by Moses Kamunza who received the information from Judith Sam that an unknown mother dumped a baby in the bush.
Mr Daka said Ms Sam is believed to have discovered the baby when she heard a cry while in the bush.
“Police acted on the matter and visited the scene of crime where the woman found the baby under a tree. Brief facts of the matter are that the woman who found the child went to cut grass meant to make brooms. Whilst in the bush she heard a baby crying and went closer only to discover that a baby was naked and found with maggots on the umbilical cord,” he said.

Eight-year-old killed by speeding vehicle, police say
BARELY two weeks of having schools open, an eight-year-old grade one pupil of North-Western Province has tragically lost her life after being hit by a vehicle.
Loveness Kalusa was on her way to school when a Toyota Hilux being driven by James Moono aged 50, hit her and she sustained fatal injuries.
The driver is alleged to hit the victim due to driving with excessive speed.
North-Western Province commanding officer Dennis Moola said the incident occurred on Monday, February 19th around 06:49 hours at Kayonge area along Mutanda-Lumwana road in Kalumbila district.
He said the suspect was driving a Toyota Hilux registration BAA 6465 belonging to North-Western Energy Cooperation.
“Due to the impact the victim sustained a very deep cut on the left pelvic joint, suspected fractured, bruised forehead and multiple bruises on the left side of the body.The motor vehicle had slight dents on the front bumper,” he said.
Mr Moola added that the suspect has been detained and charged with Causing Death by Dangerous Driving.

Tragic accident claims life of young man ejected through BMW convertible roof in Lusaka, police say
A 27-YEAR-OLD man of Libala South in Lusaka has tragically lost his life after being ejected through a BMW convertible roof and colliding with the road surface on Kafue Road.
Peter Nyongani sustained a fractured left arm, deep cuts on the head and bruises on the body.
Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale said Nyongani was rushed to Lilayi Family Clinic where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
He said the deceased was one of the two passengers in a BMW bearing registration number AEB 3161which was being driven by Andrew Kasoche aged 34 of Foxdale in Lusaka.
“They were moving towards Chilanga District when the accident happened today around 05:30 hours.The driver and the other passenger identified as Omega Mwango aged 24 of Lilayi Estates survived with minor injuries. They were treated at the same clinic and later discharged,” he said.
Mr Mwale has disclosed that police initial investigations indicate that the accident happened when the driver lost control of the motor vehicle due to excessive speed and hit into the middle road barricade causing the vehicle to overturn and in the process, Mr. Nyongani was thrown out through the convertable roof.
He said the motor vehicle is extensively damaged.
“Investigations are ongoing as the motor vehicle has to undergo re-examination processes.The Body of the deceased was deposited in UTH mortuary awaiting postmortem,” Mr Mwale said.
