ABOUT 50 Members of Parliament allegedly plan to protest the Democratic summit in which the Vice President of America Kamala Harris will be in attendance next week.

The Members of Parliament suspect that this meeting is a plan by the Americans to promote LGBTQ rights in the country.

The matter was raised as a matter of urgent public importance by the leader of opposition Brian Mundubile in parliament on Friday.

“My matter of urgent public importance madam speaker requires immediate attention of the house and Government. 50 Members of Parliament called me for a meeting that they are going to prepare a protest on the summit of democracy which they suspect is a plan by the America s to promote LGBTQ,” he said.

In ruling, First Deputy Speaker Malungo Chisangano stated that the matter should be channeled into another avenue and not as matter of urgent public importance

However, uproar arose in the house with the some of the members starting to debate each other and they were sent away.

Those sent out by Ms Chisangano were Bwengwa Member of Parliament Michelo Kasatu and Chilubi Member of Parliament Mulenga Fube who started arguing over the issue in the house.

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has implored Zambians not to demonise and shy away from exporting of resources such as energy in the country.

He said export of resources such as energy will help generate foreign investment and exchange, and thus it should be embraced.

The Head of State said Government is determined to make energy exportation second from mining in terms of generating foreign exchange for country for sustainable development.

Speaking when he commissioned the 750 Megawatts plus 12 Megawatts of hydro power generation at the Kafue Gorge lower hydro power plant in Chikankata district, President  Hichilema said energy should be a source to help grow the country in terms of foreign exchange.

“Let us generate more and export. Zambians have demonised exports. Let us not listen to the propaganda. We want energy to be second from mining in generating Foreign exchange in the country,” he said.

He has since assured the neighboring Malawi, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Botswana that as Zambia grows it’s energy generation, it will support the needs of the said countries in order to skyrocket trade.

President Hichilema further stated that commissioning of power generation at Kafue Gorge will help out an end to load shedding which has been like a traditional ceremony in the past.

The Head of  State also reiterated that Government is determined and working hard in ensuring that the country is brought back to life with completion of such projects such like the commissioning of the power generation at Kafue Gorge.

“I assure Zambians that we are working day and night to take back Zambia into a decent economy to help generate investment, thereby creating more job opportunities,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of State has re-echoed the revival of Zambia’s relationship with China stating that the restored partnership has helped kickstart many projects such as the commissioning of the Kafue Gorge.

“Opposition are saying that Zambia and China have no close ties, but we have restored the China Zambia relationship. We have reset our relationship and this engagement marks the beginning of projects that we will work on together to benefit Zambia. We will further reset the relationship and partnership including a financial partnership,” he said.

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has implored young people to spend less time on betting and gambling, but instead continue being innovative.

The Head of State says luck comes with hard work and not on the odds of betting and or gambling and that is why they should continue working hard through education and innovations.

Mr Hichilema speaking during the award ceremony for the Hakainde Hichilema innovation fund at State House on Wednesday, 22nd March, 2023, said that the odds in hard work pay off more than the odds of betting and gambling.

“Please young people, spend less time on gambling and betting. Spend more time on what you are doing than looking for luck. Luck comes because you have worked hard,” he said.

He urged the relevant ministeries to ensure that they helped secure the young people’s innovations through commercialisation as as well as copy writes.

Mr Hichilema further reiterated that Government will continue to support young people’s innovations as they are the leaders of today as well as tomorrow.
