Mwepu makes La Liga debut as Cadiz lose to Villarreal

ZAMBIAN striker Francisco Mwepu made his La Liga debut on Wednesday night as Cadiz lost 2-0 to Villarreal, becoming the first Zambian to taste Spanish top flight football.

The 23-year-old, who joined Cadiz from Austrian side Sturm Graz last year, came on as a substitute in the 67th minute.

Despite his side’s defeat, Francisco who is the younger brother to former Chipolopolo captain Enock Mwepu was positive about his performance.

“First of all, the game I am very happy to play my first La Liga game despite luck, was not with us,” he said.

“The loss pains but we just have to believe in ourselves and play Celta at home. It is possible that we can win but I am very happy for me to play my first La Liga game.”

Cadiz are currently 16th in the La Liga table, two points above the relegation zone. They next face Celta Vigo at home on Sunday.

Jacobs Coffee aroma invites youth to court

THE strong appetite for Jacobs coffee, which is made of the highest quality coffee beans from the best plantations in the world, has landed a youth of Lusaka in trouble after he allegedly stole the premium brand.

Patson Banda, 25 of Soweto Township, has been dragged to court for stealing two bottles of the ‘magic aroma’ Jacobs coffee worth K679 from ShopRite checkers.

Banda allegedly stole the soft taste coffee on May 10 2023 and he is now appearing before the Lusaka Magistrate Court to answer to a theft charge, which attracts upto five years imprisonment.

In another theft case, an Armguard security cashier is in court for allegedly stealing almost K100, 000 from his employers.

Martin Chilambe allegedly stole K97, 060 which came into his possession by virtue of his employment.

The 30-year-old is scheduled to appear before the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court.

Pupil in court for damaging ‘partial withdrawal’ glass door worth K13,000

AN 18-YEAR-OLD pupil is in trouble for damaging a door at one of the country’s currently busiest government offices-National Pensions Scheme Authority (NAPSA).

The teenager of Ng’ombe Township has been charged with the offence of malicious damage to property after he allegedly broke a glass door at NASPA offices.

The incident allegedly happened on April 1 this year.

Allegations are that on the material day, the accused wilfully and unlawfully damaged a door at NAPSA valued at K13, 395, the property of NAPSA-Levy Junction, which is the head office.

The accused is appearing before the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court.

Two brothers die in an accident on the Ndola Kitwe road, police say

TWO brothers on the Copperbelt aged 24 and 18 years respectively have died in a road traffic accident which happened on the Ndola-Kitwe dual carriage way.

The accident happened when Muchelemba Malawo aged 24, with passenger Chishimba Malawo while driving a Benz with extensive speed hit into a tipper truck.

The two brothers are believed to have died on the spot as they both are suspected to have sustained internal injuries from the impact.

The driver of the Shacman tipper truck Owen Mangwachi aged 26 escaped unhurt.

Copperbelt Province commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said the accident occurred on Sunday at about 21:00 hours along the Ndola-Kitwe dual carriage way.

Mr Mweemba said that the accident happened when the Benz was being driven from the direction of south to North and in the process, due to excessive speed, it hit into the truck which was in front also moving in the same direction.

He said involved were two motor vehicles the first being a Benz car registration number ASB 1588 zm which had an extensively damaged front part and was being driven by Muchelemba, the now deceased who sustained a fractured right leg, bleeding from the nose, suspected internal injuries and died on the spot.

“On board was a male passenger Chishimba aged 18 who sustained a fractured left leg, suspected internal injuries and died on the spot. Also involved was another motor vehicle Shacman tipper truck registration number ADE 6506 zm which had a damaged rear part, broken rear lights and it was being driven by Owen Mangwachi aged 26 who escaped unhurt,” he said.

He said the bodies of the deceased persons are in Kitwe Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Mr Mweemba said their father, Bobby Malawo has since identified the bodies.
