Multichoice launches Qatar 2022 World Cup campaign and unveils new content for rest of the year!

HOLD on to your socks and get ready for the biggest season in entertainment! MultiChoice has some exciting news for FIFA supporters and all viewers. MultiChoice customers can look forward to round-the-clock access to all 64 of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 matches and exciting new content for the rest of the year.

In a speech read on her behalf by Chilufya Mwelwa Head of Corporate, MultiChoice Zambia at the launch of the 2022 Media Content Showcase in Lusaka, Leah Kooma, Managing Director at MultiChoice Zambia said: “This year, we remain ahead of the game in delivering the best in international content and live sport. Our investment in ensuring our viewers continue to access the best of sport is highlighted in the content we have in store for customers this year.”

DStv and GOtv – The only home of football in Africa

Given that the entire African continent is abuzz with World Cup fever, MultiChoice is making FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 accessible to fans more now than ever before. DStv and GOtv – on selected packages- are not only delivering every single exhilarating moment of the World Cup straight to viewers across the continent but will also be bringing them world-class commentary to enrich the viewing experience.

“For us, it is about more than football, it is about bringing a global experience to our valued customers,” remarked Kooma.

To add value to customers, MultiChoice is making all 64 World Cup matches available to selected DStv and GOtv customers.

On top of studio build-ups, wrap-ups, the best surround programming and fan coverage, subscribers to DStv Premium, DStv Compact, DStv Compact Plus, and GOtv SUPA will get access to the full football experience, which includes all FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 matches as they air and exciting new content. DStv Family, DStv Access, GOtv Plus, GOtv Max, and GOtv Value subscribers will have access to selected games, plus fan coverage, match highlights, World Cup news and some matches that they can watch again.

Delivering her speech Mrs Kooma highlighted on MultiChoice investments in Zambia. MultiChoice has played a significant role in developing the local content industry through local channels, such as Zambezi Magic; oneZED and SuperSport; as well as infrastructure investments.

“Our investments have had a significant economic ripple effect through the production value chain. Through our investments in developing local channels, we have created employment opportunities for local people who are involved in local production,” said Kooma.

Mrs Kooma further briefed the media on MultiChoice Corporate Social Responsibility. “In our efforts to impact more lives, this year we launched the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) Expansion program, which is set to formalise our long-standing efforts to address concerns such as accessibility, opportunity, and quality in local productions. “This expansion program will offer training to Free-to-Air (FTAs) broadcasters and creative talent to help improve the quality of content.”

At the event, journalists and guests were treated to a preview of exciting available and upcoming content from MultiChoice both local and international. A team of MultiChoice staff during discussion sessions, highlighted on MultiChoice products and innovations, technological advancements, investments, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and business opportunities available to commercial establishments.

More than K72 million released to pay off former TAZARA employees

MORE than K72 million has been released by Government as retirement benefits for former Tanzania Zambia Railways Authority (TAZARA).

The money which was released this month has been outstanding for more than 15-years.

The categories of pension arrears that have been paid were under the Zambia State Insurance Corporation (ZSIC) and the National Pensions Scheme Authority (NAPSA).

Minister of Transport and Logistics Frank Tayali said Government has cleared an outstanding balance of K72,984,143.81 in retirement benefits for former TAZARA employees.

Mr Tayali has since advised the former employees to see to it that they collect their well deserved dues from NAPSA and ZSIC.

“The money that has been outstanding for so many years will help the beneficiaries and their families in clearing some of the hardships and financial bottlenecks they could have been experiencing. I urge the beneficiaries to put to good use their money so that they are able to get the best out of it,” he said.

YANGO extols Women in Transport

Yango joined the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8th, 2023, dubbed “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality”. As part of the celebration, Yango invited several female drivers for a women’s day event that took place on Wednesday 8th March, in Lusaka at The Hub.

Yango Zambia Country Manager, Kabanda Chewe explained that the mobility app has provided equitable access to solutions that are relevant and necessary for people to advance into growth without bias, thus affording even women access to technology enabling them to enhance their progress across all service offers. Patricia Ncube, one of Yango’s female drivers explained how the app helped her financially within two months of signing up – “By the month two of signing on, I started getting more rides, making more money and soon became debt free. I have found it very interesting and empowering besides working for somebody else, it has really transformed my life”

This year’s theme emphasized the significance of identifying and addressing the exceptional challenges and experiences of women. Yango appreciates the effort it takes for these women to support the ride hailing service in a world dominated by men.
