A KITWE woman is currently on the run after a terrible case of mistaken identity resulted in the death of her former husband’s cousin.
Alick Banda Sampa, aged 53 of Ipusukilo Township in Kitwe, suffered severe burns when Vivian, whose full name is unknown, accidentally poured hot water on him, thinking he was her ex-husband.
Tragically, Mr Sampa died at the hospital.
According Copperbelt province police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba, the incident occurred on October 30 around 21:30 hours.
He said the victim was asleep in his living room on a mattress when the mistaken hot water incident unfolded.
Mr Mweemba said upon realizing her error, Vivian fled the scene, leaving Mr Sampa with severe burns on his body.
“On October 31, Mr. Sampa’s niece, Ketty Chanda, rushed him to Kitwe Teaching Hospital, where he was admitted. The incident was subsequently reported to the Kitwe Teaching Hospital Police post, and a medical report was issued,” he said.
Mr Mweemba said on November 1, at 13:30 hours, Mr. Sampa was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
He said the deceased’s body now awaits a post-mortem examination at Kitwe Teaching Hospital mortuary.
Mr Mweemba said police have opened a case, but as of now, no arrests have been made, as the suspect is still at large.
