PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has urged officers in the Defence Force to remain loyal and Patriotic.

And the President has authorised the renaming of the old Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport to Peter Zuze Air Force base.

Speaking today during the commissioning of wings parade for officer cadets course 45 and 46 at the Zambia Air Force Base in Livingstone, President Lungu said his government places high premium on accommodation for military officers.

“It is an understatement to state that my government has improved the working environment of the men in uniform through infrastructure development. Challenges faced such as lack of office space, and recreational amenities have been addressed. My government places a high premium on accommodation for military officers. That is why housing units have been constructed in various bases. All this is being done through the prudent use of government resources and the phased approach dubbed the ‘water drop theory’. My government appreciates the role the Zambia Defence Force plays in maintaining peace and security in our beloved country. I am equally impressed that our officers have continued to perform exemplary when sent on peace keeping missions abroad. The Zambia Air Force has been repositioned into a more combat effective force capable of carrying out the constitutional mandate of safeguarding the Zambian Air space against all enemy air threats,” President Lungu said

He said he was happy that the Zambia Air Force has increased accident-free flying hours from two thousand to over ten thousand within the shortest period of time.

President Lungu said government has actualised the defence force modernisation programme through the acquisition of military hardware and equipment some of which has been placed on the inventory of the Zambia Air Force.

President Lungu has further urged the officers to be loyal and Patriotic.

“I wish to urge the graduating officers on parade to remain loyal and patriotic. Be professional and well disciplined. I further implore you to steer clear of politics,” he said.

President Lungu said a few unruly elements should not be allowed to destabilise the peace of the nation.

“Let us not allow a few unruly elements to destabilise our great nation which was built on the ideology of ‘One Zambia, One Nation’ as coined by President Kaunda. Let us all continue to promote and protect the interest of mother Zambia and her people,” President Lungu said.

Meanwhile, President Lungu has authorised the renaming of the old Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport to Peter Zuze Air Force base.

“I have authorised the handing-over of the old Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Airport and all associated infrastructure to the Zambia Air Force. The new base will be called the Peter Zuze Air Force base after the first indegenous air commander LT General Peter Zuze. I believe this will extend the operational reach of the air force within and beyond the boundaries. Similarly,  I have authorised the conversion of the airport at Zambia Air Force Samora Machel base to be used by civil aircraft in order to promote tourism investment and overall economic growth in the northern sector. With this move, I am confident that Northern province is poised for economic success,” he said.

And Mr Kambwili has asked Zambians to turn up in numbers on August 12 and vote for the ruling party because it is pro-poor.

Speaking during the PF virtual rally yesterday, Mr Kambwili said the opposition UPND is failing to acknowledge the massive economic gains recorded under the leadership of President Edgar Chagwa Lungu because of envy and nothing else because their leader had told him that PF was doing well in its economic policies.

Mr Kambwili said he understands how envious Mr Hichilema was because he had worked with him for a long time.

He urged Zambians not to be deceived by the campaign messages of the UPND of a better Zambia because the ruling party was already doing everything that needs to be done to attain a vibrant economy.
