THE youth accused of abducting and killing 10-year-old Chikondi Banda told investigators that he pushed the victim who later landed on a stone and died.
A judge heard that the accused, Nalukui Akafekwa, was captured in a demonstration video telling police officers that he had pushed Chikondi while in a maize field in Emmasdale.
“When we reached here [maize field], I saw a stone. I asked him [Chikondi] if he saw what I had seen.
“He said no. When he was trying to check, I pushed him. He hit the head on the stone,” Akafekwa narrates in the clip.
“The head was facing up. Some liquid came from his mouth. That’s how he stopped breathing. From there, I just got confused. Out of fear. I got his bag [and left],” the 24-year-old testified.
In the clip played in court., Aakafekwa tells police officers that he had sent a text message to the deceased’s guardian demanding for K12, 000 but never got a response.
“In the message, I said that ‘I am having your son and you need to send K12, 000,’ the accused, who lives two houses away from Chikondi’s home, narrated in the clip.
“I was demanding for money. I wanted to sponsor my child,” the youth added.
He is also heard stating that he never intended to kill the child but was stuck after his guardians never responded to him.
The accused feared that the victim would reveal that his plans once released.

“I also asked him if he was ready to be audio and video recorded of which he accepted,” the cop said.
