FOUR people have died in Mufulira on the Copperbelt after a bus they were travelling in was hit into by a Canter.
The accident happened when the first vehicle, a Volvo truck truck and trailer due to misjudged distance went and hit into the Mitsubishi Canter.
Upon being hit into, the Canter lost control and his into the Nissan bus which was coming from the opposite direction.
Due to the impact, the Nissan bus was extensively damaged, claiming four lives.
The drivers of the Volvo truck and trailer and Mitsubishi Canter escaped unhurt.
Two other passengers from the bus are battling for their lives in hospital with serious head injuries, while seven others, who include the driver had slight injuries and were discharged.
Copperbelt Province commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba who confirmed the sad incident said it occurred today around 07:40 hours along Sabina Mufulira road near Kansuswa bridge.
He said involved were three motor vehicles, with the first being a Volvo truck and trailer registration numbers ALV 4126zm and AJE 3739zm which had its right front fender ripped off and had broken both Headlamps.
Mr Mweemba explained that the same was being driven by Mellisa Banda aged 34 who escaped unhurt.
“The second motor vehicle was a Mitsubishi Canter registration ALF 1611 which had a depressed roof and damaged front part and the same was being driven by Marvelous Katutuka aged 42 who escaped the accident unhurt. Also involved was a Nissan Bus registration AFB 3932 which was extensively damaged and the same was being driven by Mathews Mwape aged 32 who complained of general body pains , was treated and discharged from kamuchanga General Hospital,” he said.
Mr Mweemba said on board of the Nissan bus were four other Passengers who died on the spot,being Philimon Mwanza aged 36 who sustained fatal head injuries, Mum’s Nkandu of who sustained Fatal head injuries, Priciler Bwanga aged 40 and unknown who sustained Head injuries.
“The two following passengers sustained serious injuries and are admitted to Kamuchanga Hospital, Peggy Musonda aged between 20 and 25 who sustained multiple head injuries and Edina Mwansa aged 59 who also sustained Head injuries. Seven other passengers sustained slight injuries they were treated and discharged from kamuchanga Hospital,” he said.
