MINISTER of Information and Media Cornelius Mweetwa says the chances of Government changing in 2026 are extremely remote.
He said this is because of the confidence Government has in the people of Zambia, coupled with a number of successes such as freedom which was not witnessed in the previous regime.
Mr Mweetwa was responding to opposition members who through Harry Kalaba in a joint statement insinuated that come 2026, Government will change.
He noted that the change of Government is entirely at the people’s discretion and decision.
“We cannot defend ourselves on something whose jurisdiction of decision does not lie in our hands. It is in the province of the citizens to decide. So if the view of opposition as pronounced by Mr Kalaba that in 2026 there will be change of Government, that is entirely at the people’s discretion.”
“The only thing we know is that Zambia under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema will continue to be governed under the rule of Law. But going by the programs that this new dawn administration has put in place already and those planned, the chances of changing Government in 2026 are very and extremely remote,” he said.
He also pondered at claims of a diminishing democracy, stating that opposition leaders have been given a favourable environment to politick.
Mr Mweetwa also advised the citizenry to remain calm in the midst of the heightened crusade to sow seeds of discontent by opposition political members.
He said claims by the opposition as as a result of frustration, further advising them not to have a gold digger type of mindset.
Earlier, Citizens First leader Harry Kalaba and other opposition members held a press briefing at which they accused Government of various issues such as eroding of democracy.
Mr Kalaba claimed that upon the state by President Hichilema of “Imingalato”, the opposition was filled with harassment, persecution and political party torture.
He further claimed through the joint statement by political parties that a number of state institutions had been compromised.
