AfCON-bound Chipolopolo have made a slight improvement on the latest edition of the FIFA Rankings with Avram Grant’s men moving from 82nd to 81st position on the global ratings.
As per their custom, FIFA have released their monthly rankings, displaying the various positions being held by various national teams after the September FIFA calendar.
Zambia who played two matches during the FIFA window, the `1 – 0 loss to Egypt and the 3 – 0 win over Uganda have made movements in the rankings for October.
The improved ranking is a welcome motivation for Zambia as they prepare to take part in the World Cup qualifiers that kick off next month.
However, there was no movement for Zambia in the African scale as they have remained static at position six.
Meanwhile, Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga has said Chipolopolo is better placed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
“We are in a better place now that the 2026 World Cup will be hosted by the United States of America where our closest chase in 1994 almost led us to after losing an entire national team.
“Our confidence is derived from the fact that we have a generation of players that seem to have a hunger to achieve something special for the motherland,” Kamanga wrote in his weekly column.
