BARELY a week after a woman of Lusaka was arrested for administering alcohol to a minor, a 17 year old woman of Kabwe has been detained for giving Kachasu to her four year old son.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo has disclosed to Mwebantu that officers in Kabwe of Central Province have since instituted investigations in the matter of Giving intoxicating Liquor to a child alleged to have occured yesterday about 11:30 hours in Makululu Compound.
She said it is alleged that a male juvenile aged four was found unconscious after he was given illicit beer popularly known as kachasu by his mother Patricia Mwansa aged 17 of the same compound.
Mrs Katongo said when police visited the scene, they found the child unconscious, rushed him to Kasanda clinic and later referred to Kabwe Mine Hospital where he was admitted and later discharged.
“The mother of the victim, Patricia Mwansa is detained for the subject offence,” she said.
11 people among them a Chinese national injured after explosion at Jinfa Steel Company in Chambishi, police say
ELEVEN people among them a Chinese have sustained injuries during an explosion at Jinfa Steel company in Chambishi.
Copperbelt province commissioner of police, Elias Chushi said in a statement that the explosion occurred on May 13, this year between 07:45 hours and 08:00 hours.
He said 10 are Zambians while one is a Chinese.
He named the victims as Evans Kalufyanga 46, Maybin Nkandu 29, Gideon Mtonga 32, Timothy Chibwe 40, Mike Shabukome 28 and Aaron Musonda 29.
Others are Kunda Nkandu 24, Angel Mubanga 29, Christine Simwanza 31, Musonda Everisto 26 and a Chinese National, Luo Yi Ping 55.
Mr Chushi said the victims sustained multiple burns during the explosion.
“The cause of the explosion is not yet known but one eyewitness explained that, the workers were loading scrap metals in the furnace, after which there was a loud explosion. Furthermore, it is suspected that, some scrap metals had harmful substances which could have caused the explosion,” he said.
The commissioner said all the Casualties are admitted to Sinozam Friendly Hospital in Kitwe.
He said of the 11 casualties, six are in a critical condition, whereas are stable.
Mr Chushi further said the company management didn’t report this matter to the authorities.
Police detain mother over the death of her 8 month old baby
A 27-YEAR-OLD woman of Lusaka has been detained over the death of her eight month old baby who is alleged to have been murdered in unknown circumstances.
According to police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale, Isaac Chimba Mwansa aged 28 reported that his child identified as Lemmy Mwansa died in unknown circumstances.
He said the incident is suspected to have occurred on May 13, 2021 in Kalikiliki Compound.
Mr Mwale said preliminary investigations revealed that the couple did not have any dispute but slept in different rooms.
“The mother identified as Esnart Banda aged 27, in her alleged drunken state, slept in the living room while her husband slept in the bedroom. The house is two roomed,” he said.
Mr Mwale said the baby was discovered dead near to the door away from the mother by the father who woke up to go outside the house around 04:00hours.
He said Police have since detained Esnart Banda while the body of the deceased has been deposited in University Teaching Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Police detain Chilufya Tayali
POLICE in Lusaka have arrested Economic and Equity Party President, Chilufya Tayali for the offence of Defamation of the President.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said Mr Tayali’s follows a video which went viral on social media in which he made derogatory remarks against President Edgar Lungu.
“He is detained in police custody for the subject offence,” she said.
And after his arrest, Mr. Tayali wrote on his Facebook page that police apprehended him because of his ‘few’ criticism against the Head of State.
“Just because of a few criticisms on President Lungu, they have arrested me. I guess they don’t want me on the ballot,” reads his post.
