CHIENGE legislator Given Katuta has told journalists that she does not want them to cover her court cases considering that in the past, they have not highlighted anything about the positive things she had done in her constituency.
Ms Katuta, who was visibly unhappy with the presence of journalists at court, accused the scribes of scheming to dent her reputation at a fee.
“You want to dent my image so that you can get paid, is that fair?” The reverend told off the journalists who kept filming her.
“Madam, don’t cover me, honestly, and I insist, don’t cover me…it’s against my rights,” she said.
“Don’t cover me, if you are born from a women, it’s very clear, don’t cover me! Please, don’t be excited, I’ve got a big family to take care of, don’t be excite,” Ms Katuta said before she left the premises.
Earlier, Ms Katuta appeared before the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court in a case she was recently arrested and charged with common assault.
She is accused of assaulting Times of Zambia photographer Henry Chunza at Parliament by spitting in his face, an incident which happened at the National Assembly on July 21.
The incident happened as the MP was leaving the House after being suspended for a week.
She is accused of manhandling the photo-journalist and forced him to delete the pictures he captured.
When Ms Katuta went to court this morning, she was informed that her case is not yet on the list and advised to appear next week.
While leaving, she moved her face very close to the cameras of journalists who were capturing so that they could take the shots.
However, when she reached outside the building but within the court premises, the MP told the journalists not to film her.
“Don’t cover me, it’s against my rights,” Ms Katuta said but the scribes continued to do their work.
The MP complained that the time she supported 1000 girls and boys with university education the scribes never covered her but they instead want to now tarnish her image.
“Mr Kasama, tell your colleagues, I don’t want their coverage. I don’t want any media coverage,” Ms Katuta said.
