Afrishop and Mwebantu collaborating to donate 10,000 medical masks to Zambian Students in China



Afrishop and Mwebantu announced a donation on Tuesday of 10,000 medical masks valued at USD 7,000 to Zambian Students in China, to help address supply shortages of the masks in the wake of the outbreak of the Corona virus.

There are about 4,000 Zambian students in China of which 200 Zambian students are in Wuhan city, which is the most affected city of the Corona virus.

As you may be aware, the spread of the Corona virus has led to a shutdown leaving many residents cut off from basic amenities. Afrishop will be using their app and logistics network in China to provide free masks to Zambian Students in need as they have become a much sought after and scarce commodity.

Mwebantu will be joining Afrishop by doing our part to help donate 10,000 masks and ensure that they reach our Zambian students.

To get your mask or access a mask for someone

  1. Download the Afrishop app on Google Play Store, Apple Store or Huawei, or at this link
  2. Enter recipient name, age, gender, Chinese phone number and valid residential address

The masks will be available for FREE to students via the app and can be accessed by downloading Afrishop on Google Play Store, Apple Store or Huawei store. Students or well-wishers can place their orders by using a valid Chinese address. With our logistics network, Afrishop will then distribute these orders across China for free.

Zamtel scoops top customer service award, named best Internet service provider 



ZAMTEL has been named the Best Internet Service Provider in Zambia for its Velocity internet service at the just ended Customer Service Excellence Awards Gala Dinner.

Zamtel picked up the Customer Choice Award at the event held in Livingstone on Friday night based on a survey conducted by the Chartered Institute for Customer Management from July until October 15th 2021.

Announcing the award, the Institute stated that based on survey results, consumers in Zambia have rated Zamtel’s flagship product Velocity as the best internet service which clearly demonstrates the company’s commitment to customer service.

And commenting on the award, Zamtel Acting Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Keith Banda commended customers for their loyalty and support which has made Velocity the most popular internet service in Zambia since it was launched in 2019.

“We are proud to receive this recognition and we know it is as a result of hard work, dedication and focus on providing the best internet customer experience. This award is also in celebration of our customer service staff who interface with our customers for their excellent work,” Mr Banda said.

Mr Banda said Zamtel declared 2021 as the Year of the Customer as a further recognition of the role of the customer in the growth of the company.

“Even as we continue to invest heavily in technologies and the enhancement of network capacity and quality, we are aware of the critical importance of excellence in customer service and we are delighted that our efforts in this regard are being recognized by the customer and the industry alike.”

Lafarge Zambia continues to support Junior Golf in Zambia  



LAFARGE Zambia successfully hosted its 10th Annual Golf Day, on 22nd October 2021 promoting golf in Zambia as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility commitment to the Chilanga community.
With the devastating effects of Covid-19 which has affected many livelihoods, Lafarge Zambia saw it fit to once again aid the Chilanga community through the Lafarge Corporate Golf Day held at Chilanga Golf Club – an event that raises funds to support the Junior Golf Academy, purchase equipment for the club during the pandemic.
Lafarge Zambia Board Chairman Mr Muna Hantuba, emphasized during the event that “he is happy that 10 years later the Golf tournament has continued to bring partners in a collaborative manner that has produced visible improvements to the golf club and the academy which has over 106 registered youths around Chilanga by providing a sporting facility that enhances the quality of recreational life.” He further thanked the sponsors for their support and collaborative spirit namely; One Life, Zambian Breweries, Coca-Cola Beverages, Stanbic Bank and Zamtel just to mention a few.
Mr Hantuba also mentioned that 13 of the youths under the Academy have won tournaments under the Zambia Golf Union and Professional Golfers both locally and internationally; bringing pride to not only Chilanga District and Lafarge, but the country as a whole.
The Government, represented by Youth and Sports Minister Hon Elvis Nkandu commended Lafarge Zambia for its resilient contribution to sports and wellness in the country.
Hon. Nkandu in his speech said that he was happy to be part of the 10th Chilanga golf tournament which was aimed at supporting the youth in the academy.
“This shows how Lafarge Zambia and the Chilanga Golf club are committed to improving the sport of golf in Chilanga and the country, as well as promote employment opportunities. The government takes pride in this initiative as it is in line with the National Youth Policy which aims at engaging the youth and stakeholders in meaningful partnership for the implementation of youth development programs using a multi-sectoral approach,” he added.
Minister Nkandu also commended Lafarge Zambia Executives and the Chilanga Golf Club management for always taking the lead in helping the country to promote sports and wellness.
Minister Nkandu said this in the speech read on his behalf by the Vice Director Sports Mr Raphael Mulenga.
The Zambian Breweries team won the 2021 Chilanga golf tournament, followed by the Spectra Oil and BlackDot teams in third.
And the Minister of Tourism and Arts, Hon Rodney Sikumba who was also in attendance thanked all the golfers and Lafarge Zambia for supporting and promoting young golfers in Zambia.
Lafarge Zambia is the main sponsor of the Chilanga Golf Club and Zambia’s biggest marathon, the Lafarge Lusaka Marathon.
