THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) continues its mission to combat corruption throughout the country, with a new office set to open in Muchinga.
Minister of Muchinga Province Henry Sikazwe has emphasised his commitment to ensuring a corruption-free Zambia and expressed optimism about the ACC’s presence in the province contributing to the restoration of integrity.
Mr Sikazwe pointed out the numerous developmental projects underway in the province, highlighting that the ACC’s presence would help ensure resources are utilized efficiently.
Speaking during a courtesy call by an ACC team, Mr Sikazwe stressed the importance of having the commission in the province.
“A few years ago, accessing the ACC office required traveling to Kasama, which was cumbersome. However, with the dawn of a new era, credit goes to President Hakainde Hichilema. Having the commission’s presence here is crucial. Muchinga is a developing province with a multitude of activities, making your presence necessary,” he explained.
Mr Sikazwe said the ACC’s presence is particularly needed in government institutions to restore integrity and promote accountability.
He underscored the importance of teaching people to be accountable and safeguarding the integrity and resources of the country through collaborative efforts.
Mr Sikazwe also requested the ACC to establish programs in the province to raise awareness and sensitize the people.
He acknowledged that the ACC’s presence might be perceived as adversarial by some, making sensitization programs vital.
“If we actively engage with all eight districts, especially in schools, we can make significant progress. As a government, we pledge our full support to your efforts here. Muchinga is committed to the fight against corruption,” he affirmed.
And ACC vice chairperson Ireen Lamba expressed gratitude to the Minister for providing the Commission with an audience.
She shared the ACC’s goal to expand its presence across the country and educate communities about the effects and dangers of corruption, along with preventive measures to seal loopholes.
Ms Lamba also emphasised the importance of the new ACC office in Muchinga in fulfilling the commission’s core duties.
“We must collaborate as government entities to prevent corruption and move forward,” she she said.
Meanwhile, ACC Commissioner Dr Henry Mbushi noted that the commission’s presence in the province aims to facilitate the fight against corruption.”
