ACC arrests Civil Engineer at Kanchibiya Town Council for corrupt practices involving K60,000

THE Anti-Corruption Commission in Kasama has arrested an Assistant Civil Engineer at Kanchibiya Town Council for corrupt practices involving K60,000.

ACC spokesperson Queen Chibwe said Luckson Chishimba aged 34 of Chitulika in Mpika has been charged with corrupt practices by public officer.

Mrs Chibwe said on dates unknown but between 1st May 2019 and 25th November 2019 at Mpika being a public officer namely assistant civil engineer employed at Kanchibiya Town Council corruptly solicited for K60,000 cash gratification from Nathan Sinyenga, a Director at Mwalizi Trading.

She said Chishimba allegedly  received K15,000 in order to forego routine building inspections in respect of Kawama Rural Health Post that was being constructed by Mwalizi Trading, a matter or transaction that concerns Kanchibiya Town Council, a Public Body.

“Mr Chishimba has since been released on Bond and will appear in court soon,” Mrs Chibwe said.

Woman steals newly born baby to take a picture as evidence to her boyfriend

POLICE have apprehended a 24-year-old woman for stealing a baby from Kafue General Hospital maternity ward.

When detained by hospital staff, Christine Tembo said the motive behind stealing of the baby was to take a picture and send to her boyfriend whom she had told that she was expecting.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said Tembo of Mtendere East in Lusaka has since been apprehended for the offence of child stealing.

“The incident occurred on 21st October, 2021 at around 17:30 hours at Kafue General Hospital Maternity ward.

It is alleged that the suspect went to the maternity ward where she got the baby belonging to Mildred Munyama aged 23 of unknown house number in Shimabala West. The suspect was later apprehended by Hospital staff and upon being interviewed she revealed that the motive behind stealing of the baby was to take a picture of the baby and send to her boyfriend whom she had told that she was expecting and now with a baby,” he said.

Mr Hamoonga said Tembo is currently detained in police custody.

Hungry woman arrested, fined K 200 for buying bananas worth K 10 from a street vendor

A THIRTY-NINE-YEAR-OLD woman of Kitwe has been apprehended and fined K200 for buying five bananas worth K10 from a street vendor.

Iness Munyeme, 39 of house number 2268 Luangwa West, was apprehended together with four others for buying merchandise from the street.

Kitwe City Council public relations manager Chola Mwamba told #Mwebantu, that the four were cautioned with Ms Munyeme who has since  been fined K200 after admission of guilty.

“Kitwe City Council would like to inform members of the public that we have this week apprehended 5 people for buying merchandise from street vendors,” Mwamba said.

Mwamba said the local authority is  disappointed that some residents have continued buying their mechendise from street vendors.

She said if the trend continues traders will encouraged to abandon their market stands in preference for the street thereby contributing to the increase in street vending, street congestion and street litering as well as loss of revenue in the markets.

“However, the Council police will continue patrolling the CBD and arrest any one buying items from street vendors,” Mwamba said.

Recently, Council Town Clerk Mbulo Seke announced the move start arresting and prosecuting people buying merchandise from undesignated trading places in an effort to curb street vending.

The Town Clerk said the move is in view of the observed unhealthy customer behaviour of preferring to buy from streets instead designated trading places.

Father warned for failing to secure firearm, after his son shot dead his elder sister

A FATHER to a juvenile accused of shooting dead his elder sister using his gun has been warned and cautioned for failing to secure a firearm.

Meanwhile, the juvenile has been arrested and charged with murder.

In a media statement,  police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said Lyson Phiri aged 70 has been warned and cautioned for the offence of  failing to secure a fire arm Contrary to Section 38 (1) of CAP 110 of the laws of Zambia.

Mr Hamoonga further Mr Phiri juvenile’s son has also been arrested and charged with murder.

“Police have formerly charged and arrested the male Juvenile aged 18 for Murder Contrary to Section 200 of CAP 87 of the laws of Zambia,” he said.

Last, the juvenile shot dead his 39 year old sister who was at the time seated in the living room.
