A SIXTY-FIVE year old man of Mafinga Muchinga province has committed suicide by hanging after he suspected his wife of having an affair with a 24-year-old man.
Isaac Mwandila committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree using a wire.
Officers who visited the scene found his body hanging about 100 meters away from his home.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said in a statement on February 16, around 15:00 hours, Mr Mwandila went home in a drunken state and picked a quarrel his wife aged 61.
She said situation is said to have been aggravated by a named 24 year old man who, in his drunken state, begun calling Mr Mwandila’s wife which made him to suspect his wife of having an extra marital affair.
“Around 21:00 hours, the victim was spotted by one of his sons heading to a nearby bush and he alerted his elder brother Chrispine Mwandila. They trailed the victim and found his body hanging on a tree.
The body has been buried and police have opened an inquiry in the matter,” Mrs Katongo said.
Meanwhile, Police in Mongu of Western Province are investigating a report of murder in which a 72 year old man was murdered by unknown people.
The victim sustained multiple deep wounds as a spear is alleged to have been used in the act.
Mrs Katongo said the body of the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood with a stabbed spear still stuck in the head.
“The reason for the murder has not yet been established, however, it is suspected that it could be on suspicion of practicing witchcraft. The body is in Lewanika General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem,” she said.

Police arrest couple over their pornographic video on social media with gospel music playing in the background
POLICE in Lusaka have arrested a couple for allegedly circulating their pornographic video on social media with gospel music playing in the background.
In a media statement issued, police spokesperson Esther Katongo said police through the Cyber Crime Unit commenced investigations into a case of obscene material which was circulating on various social media platforms with gospel music playing in the background. She said investigations into the matter led to the arrest of John Chewe aged 31, a pharmacist and Angela Kapumba aged 24, a dental assistant both working at a private Hospital in Lusaka.
Mrs Katongo said the duo had initially reported to Luckson Mapushi Police Post from where they obtained a Police report that on February 19,between 02:00 hours and 05:00 hours, unknown people had broken into their motor vehicle and stole a phone which was containing the said video and later circulated on various social media platforms without their knowledge.
She however said investigations revealed that there was no such incidence involving the theft of the mobile phone in question and that the report given to police was aimed distancing themselves from what was circulating on social media.
“Chewe and Kapumba have been warn and cautioned for the offences of Prohibition of Pornography Contrary to section 102(a)(b) of the Electronic and Communications Transaction Act number 21 of 2009,Making a False Document contrary to section 344 , CAP 87, Uttering a false document contrary to section 352 of Cap 87 and Giving false information to a public officer contrary to section 125, CAP 87 of the Laws of Zambia,” she said.
Mrs Katongo said the couple detained in police custody yet to be charged and will appear in court soon.
