ONE person has died in a fatal road traffic accident which occurred today around 05:00 hours on Great east road in Lusaka’s Marshland area.
Police spokesperson, Esther Katongo has confirmed the accident in a statement to Mwebantu.
Mrs Katongo said Bornface Tembo 49 of Garden compound who was driving a Toyota corolla registration number ABV 9569 sustained serious injuries while a passenger on the same motor vehicle identified as Peter Sampa whose age is not known, died on the spot.
She said a woman identified as Jacqueline Makayi aged 26 years of Rhodes Park in Lusaka who was driving a Toyota Lexus registration number BAL 6246 from west to east sustained serious injuries.
Mrs Katongo said the accident occurred when the driver of Toyota Lexus misjudged clearance distance or speed of the Toyota corolla hence hit into it.
“The injured are receiving medical attention while the body of deceased is in the mortuary awaiting postmortem,” she said.

Woman struck by lightning inside her home in Mufumbwe, police say
A 52 -YEAR -OLD woman of Mufumbwe in Northwestern province has died after she was struck by lightning in inside her house.
In a statement to Mwebantu, police spokesperson, Esther Katongo said police received a report of sudden and unnatural death which occurred on November 23, this year around 23:00 hours, at Likulau Village, Chief Chizela.
She identified the deceased as Monica Muswenyesa.
Mrs Katongo said the body is in Mufumbwe District Hospital mortuary awaiting burial.
Meanwhile, a five-year-old child has also died in a similar circumstance in Kazungula district.
“Police in Kazungula District received a report from Samuel Muyeye aged 51 of Sikili Village, Chief Sekute of Kazungula District who reported that a female juvenile aged five years identified as Mizezo Siamukoma died after being struck by lightning while her father Robert Siamakoma aged 56 and her mother identified as Emmelda Mulinda aged 37 survived with injuries.
Female juvenile Sevina Siamukoma aged two years also sustained injuries and her condition was described to be unstable,” Mrs Katongo said.
She said all the survivors are admitted to Kazungula Clinic while the body of the deceased is in Batoka mortuary Hospital awaiting Postmodern.

Priest attacked and beaten in church, while preaching the gospel in Lusaka, police say
THERE was drama at Kalingalinga Anglican Church in Lusaka when a church member went to the pulpit and punched the priest while preaching.
A manhunt has since been launched as the suspect identified as Mwale is allegedly on the run.
The incident comes after the priest called for church elections which is believed to have angered some church members.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo has confirmed the incident to Mwebantu.
She said the incident happened today, November 22, at around 10:00 hours.
Mrs Katongo said it is alleged that while the priest whose identity has been withheld, was preaching at the pulpit, Mwale went there and ordered the priest to stop preaching.
She said when the priest resisted, Mwale begun dragging him and punched him on the face with fists.
Mrs Katongo said the priest sustained swollen lips.
She said initial Investigations have revealed that Mwale is among a group of church members fighting the priest over the church car park space.
“It is further alleged that the priest has been calling for church elections and this has angered some church members,” she said
Mrs Katongo said a medical report form has been issued and a manhunt for the suspect who is currently on the run has been launched.
“Police who went to the scene found the church locked and members dispersed. Investigations in the matter have continued,” Mrs Katongo said.
