INSPECTOR General of Police Kakoma Kanganja says he is appalled by the conduct of the suspected UPND thugs who allegedly abducted two police officers of Mpika Police Station and assaulted other members of the public.
Kanganja says the suspected cadres are alleged to have been in the entourage of their party leader Mr Hakainde Hichilema.
In a statement, the I. G revealed that the incident happened yesterday around 15:00 hours in Lavushimanda town Center in Muchinga Province.
“I am reminding politicians once again that anyone who would want to commit crimes under the veil of politics shall have themselves to blame as police shall not tolerate such kind of unreasonable behaviour,” Kanganja said.
He warned those that took part in the alleged abduction that police will investigate the matter and have them arrested.
Kanganja said police will ensure that all those that will be found wanting are dealt with in accordance with the law.
“I have since directed the Provincial Police Commissioner for Muchinga to ensure that all those that have been spotted to be behind this heinous crime are apprehended and brought to book without any undue delay,” he added.
The I. G added that it is also his role to ensure that no harm comes to his officer.
He also urged all groupings that have issues with the police to engage him unlike taking the law in their own hands.

Lusaka is totally transformed, but utupuba tu letalika, President Edgar Lungu says
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has bragged at how Lusaka has greatly transformed owing to various projects his Government has initiated.
Speaking when he commissioned the Arcades Fly-over bridge in Lusaka, President Lungu said Government will continue to improve the face of Lusaka as it is the capital city.
He said the city has totally transformed, stressing that “a diplomat who left Zambia and was recently visiting from South Africa could not remember Lusaka because of the way it has been transformed”.
“He told us that he could not trace where he used to stay here in Lusaka and that is a fact because Lusaka is totally transformed, but ‘utupuba tu letalika’ (small fools are arguing),” The head of State said.
