Two people die after floor tiles they were offloading fell on them, police say

TWO people have died after floor tiles which they were offloading from a truck  fell on them whilst they were inside a container.
The incident happened on Tuesday around 16:00 hours at Kalatrade Industries Ltd which is located in 15 miles area along Great North Road, in Chibombo District.
And Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo who confirmed the development to Mwebantu in a statement identified the victims as Johnson Ntaulo aged 27 years and James Lupiya aged 37 who were workers at the same company.
She said officers who rushed to the scene found bodies of the victims still stuck and were found with head and chest injuries.
And Katongo said the bodies have since been deposited in the UTH Mortuary and an inquiry in the matter has been opened.

Terrifying moment, Lusaka woman arrested in connection with abduction of a man from Intercity Bus terminal.

POLICE have arrested a 35 year old woman of Lusaka’s Kuku compound for abduction and attempted murder.

It is reported that on October 22, 2020 around 09:00 hours, Mweeta together with Three men who are currently on the run did abduct Kenny Kabwe aged 23 of Kuku Compound from Intercity Bus terminal and bundled him in the boot of a car belonging to Mweeta who is also known to be a business lady at inter city bus terminal.

Acting Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale has disclosed in a statement to Mwebantu that the victim was taken to Blue water Dam in Kuku Compound where he was beaten before being thrown into the dam.

He said members of the public who were witnessing what was happening took note of the motor vehicle registration number and managed to rescue the victim who was half drowned.

“Kenny, who sustained a fractured left arm, was rushed to the Clinic by people who rescued him before reporting the matter to the police,” Mwale narrated.

He said the suspect was apprehended on Sunday after members of the public tipped police when they saw the same car at a named car park in Kuku Compound.

He said police have since launched a manhunt for the other three suspects and are yet to establish the motive behind the act.

One person dies in a road traffic accident in Lusaka, police say

ONE person has died in a fatal road traffic accident which occurred today around 05:00 hours on Great east road in Lusaka’s Marshland area.

Police spokesperson, Esther Katongo has confirmed the accident in a statement to Mwebantu.

Mrs Katongo said Bornface Tembo 49 of Garden compound who was driving a Toyota corolla registration number ABV 9569 sustained serious injuries while a passenger on the same motor vehicle identified as Peter Sampa whose age is not known, died on the spot.

She said a woman identified as Jacqueline Makayi aged 26 years of Rhodes Park in Lusaka who was driving a Toyota Lexus registration number BAL 6246 from west to east sustained serious injuries.

Mrs Katongo said the accident occurred when the driver of Toyota Lexus misjudged clearance distance or speed of the Toyota corolla hence hit into it.

“The injured are receiving medical attention while the body of deceased is in the mortuary awaiting postmortem,” she said.

483 people die in road traffic accidents during the third quarter of 2020, police say

POLICE say 483 people died in road traffic accidents during the third quarter of 2020 out of the 390 fatal accidents that were recorded.

And police say a total number of 7,756 road traffic accidents were recorded during the same period of which 1,206 people were seriously injured, and 2,228 persons were slightly injured.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said 4, 019 were recorded as damages only road traffic accidents.

Katongo said Lusaka Province recorded the highest number of road traffic accidents with 4,335 followed by Copperbelt with 1,130 whilst Northern and Western Provinces recorded the least with 131 and 162 road traffic accidents respectively.

And Katongo said K12 million was raised from admission of guilty fines in the same period under review.
