Late Ackim Simukonda’s musician son Niza dies aged 28

NIZA Simukonda, the son on Zambian music legend Ackim Simukonda has died aged 28.

Fellow musician Wezi has confirmed Niza’s death on her Facebook page.

Wezi said there was not much details of Niza’s death although he had been well and suddenly died yesterday.

“I’m sad to share the news of the passing away of a young talented artist, son of the legend Ackim Simukonda. There’s no details yet as to the cause of death. According to a mutual friend, Niza was unwell and he passed away yesterday,” Wezi wrote.

“I woke up today with tributes to him flowing on my timeline, this is heartbreaking! Rest In Peace young king!” She added.

In 2018 Niza released a single titled Tata Wandi, a reply to his father’s Bana Bandi which was recorded 20 years ago.

In an interview with the Daily Mail then, NIZA said although he had the burden of carrying on the legacy of his late father, he considered it a beautiful burden.

Niza had a passion for playing the guitar just like his father and is one of the country’s smoothest vocalists.

In the song, Niza was responding to his father that he and his siblings have heard what he told them to do in the song, and that is to love one another.

PR Girl Media appoints Miles Sampa as Lusaka July ambassador

Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa has been appointed Brand Ambassador for the annual Lusaka July Event held by PR Girl Media. Mr. Sampa officially announced his acceptance of the Brand Ambassadorship role yesterday at a press briefing held at Marlin Polo by PR Girl Media, a local company headed by Ms. Chishimba and Monde Nyambe that highlights the beauty of Zambia through fashion and entertainment.

Speaking at the Press Briefing, Mr. Sampa expressed gratitude to have been offered the position, stating that Lusaka July has the potential to put Zambia on the map through the large regional attention It attracts. He stated that the event, since its introduction in 2016 has become a beacon of national pride as it represents the vibrancy of Zambian creativity.

“The Lusaka July has proven to be a vital contribution to the economy, particularly for the creative and hospitality industries” the Lusaka Mayor said. He pledged to play his part in ensuring that the event is a success and an example of the way forward as we continue to embrace the new normal. “It is important that we promote safe social gatherings, therefore i will see to it that this event adheres to all Covid 19 preventive measures, as recommended by the Public Health authorities” he clarified.

Mr. Sampa stated that the Covid 19 Pandemic this year has not been kind to entrepreneurs in the entertainment Industry, and therefore stressed the importance of the general public supporting this event. He expressed pleasure to note PR Girl Media’s confirmation that 10% of the event proceeds will be donated to women and children who have been left vulnerable in result of the pandemic.

Ms. Chishimba Nyambe of PR Girl Media expressed gratitude to the Mayor for coming on board the Lusaka July initiative. Ms. Nyambe said this year’s event has a special element to it as it is the first to be happening following the covid 19 pandemic.

She stated the importance of the Council’s presence in the initiative to ensure that all safety measures advised by the Public Health authorities are adhered to at the event. Ms. Nyambe added that last few months of lockdown have dawned on the Zambian entertainment industry and that there is need to awaken the industry for the positive outcome Lusaka July brings to the city.

The City Father added that it is also necessary for Lusaka residents to attend this event due to the decrease in local tourism following the pandemic.“We need to bring some much needed light and color to the city as we continue to fight Covid 19” he said. He urged all corporate entities to come on board and support the event and commended Zambian Breweries for consecutively sponsoring the event in the past years.

Zambian Breweries Head of Marketing Sibajene Munkombwe highlighted that their corporation has a long-lasting relationship with PR Girl Media and have pledged to support the Lusaka July event in 2020 to set an example of safe and responsible socialising amidst covid19. “This will be our first event partnership under the ‘new normal’ and we are committed to setting a standard for events in the future.

The Lusaka July networking event is inspired by the South African Durban July event and attracts over 300 opinion leaders, socialites, celebrities, and corporate figures in an occasion that combines fashion and the sport of Polo.

Zambezi Magic Celebrates 5 Years of Sharing Our Stories

WE caught up with Mosibudi Pheeha, Channel Head of Zambezi Magic to get the inside scoop of the 5-year journey of Zambezi Magic and the instrumental role that she has played in ensuring the success of the channel.

“Zambezi Magic launched on the 1st of July 2015 under the leadership of Addiel Dzinoreva, former Channel Head” Pheeha recalled. “With big shoes to fill and determination, I took over the role in 2017 where I assumed the position of Acting Channel Head for Zambezi Magic whilst juggling my current role of Commissioning Editor for the channel” she concluded. The multitalented force fast proved her way to the top resulting in her being appointed the hot seat of Channel Head on 1 June 2018. The rest is history.

Throw back to where it all began

“The channel started off with commissioning and licensing content from Zambia. Who remembers the edgy youth shows like Paya 1 and Nkani Yamu Sisi or the licensed riveting drama- Behind Faces? In addition to this, the channel prided itself with great movies that kept most families glued to their television sets in their living rooms, cultivating the culture of family time in many households around the southern region” said Pheeha.

A game changer and leader of the pack.

“Throughout the past 5 years, the channel has done a complete 360, providing audience with an exciting content mix through the launch of Zuba- Zambia’s first telenovela followed by Mpali which has since proved to be the top favorites amongst the Zambezi Magic audience. The channel has also had the honor of adapting successful formats such as Date My Family in Zambia and Botswana and Our Perfect Wedding Zambia from the sister channel- Mzansi Magic” narrated Pheeha.

She further added that the success of these two reality formats gave Zambezi Magic the foundation to fine tune their content based on audience appetite and ultimately launch My Kitchen Party- the channels very own wedding rite of passage celebration format which took viewers by storm!

Pheeha could not help but laugh when citing the introduction of rib cracking comedies like Land Lady Meets Landlord, Lusaka Maids and the most recent addition to the comedy offering, Shi Mumbi. “The objective was to create stories that resonate with audience, young and old” she said.

This formula is clearly still relevant to the channel hence its ongoing success and likability across all age groups as well as genders.

Where to from here?

It is not by chance that the channel has survived in the most detrimental economical times. “Our mantra as a channel is: We do not make content only for ourselves, but for our viewers” said Pheeha. “We have learned audience behavior and make the necessary tweaks where warranted. The content team is equally skilled in broadcasting and are therefore always on the lookout for new and fresh stories that can be told in the most honest and authentic voice” she concluded.
