THREE (03) people have died on the spot while five (05) others have sustained serious injuries after a Hiace minibus they were traveling on overturned at Munali Hills along the Great North Road (Mazabuka – Kafue).
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo who confirmed the development in a statement to Mwebantu said the accident involved a Toyota Hiace Registration number BAE 3867 driven by Levinson Mweemba, 34 years of Kabobola compound in Mazabuka, with 14 passengers on board.
She said the accident happened when the driver while ascending an uphill, improperly overtook a truck on a curve, and in trying to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming, he lost control of the vehicle and careered off the road and overturned several times.
“Due to the impact, three (3) passengers sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot. One has been identified as Violet Habumbe of Hakoola village, Chief Naluwama, Chikankata District while two, a female adult and a male adult have not yet been identified,” Katongo said.
She said the three bodies have been deposited in the Mazabuka general hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
“Five (5) other passengers sustained serious injuries as follows (1) Male Rasheti Katanga, 30 years , Moono Jonathan 22 years of Chityotyola, Kafue and Rhoda Malambo 18 years of Chilanga township, male Situmbeko Namangala 74 years of Kanyama Compound in Lusaka and unknown male adult,” said Katongo.
And Katongo said all the five accident survivors are admitted to Kafue General Hospital while the six (06) other passengers and the driver who sustained minor injuries have been admitted to Nansenga clinic in Chikankata District.
She said the driver is yet to be charged with three (3) counts of Causing Death by Dangerous Driving.
Police have arrested 43 people for illegally patronizing bars and night clubs amidst the COVID-19 health restrictions
POLICE in Lusaka have arrested 43 people for illegally patronizing bars and night clubs amidst the COVID-19 health restrictions.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo says the arrests were made during an operation which was conducted last night.
She said among those arrested are 16 females and 27 males who were picked from different premises including Shamrock Lodge where 17 people were apprehended, Scorpion Night club where seven people were apprehended, Zero Degree Night club where 12 were apprehended, KCC Night Club where three people were apprehended.
“All the mentioned night clubs are located in Kabwata Others were apprehended from Chawama and Woodlands,” Katongo said.
She said they have all been charged with Conduct likely to cause the breach of peace.
Katongo said the police will make a recommendation to the Lusaka City Council (LCC) to revoke trading licenses on all erring bars and night clubs.
” Among the arrested were bar attendants. These operations will continue countrywide hence members of the public are advised to adhere to Public Health regulations and avoid finding themselves in confrontation with the Police,” said Katongo.
10 year old girl of Mumbwa dies after she was defiled by two men of the same family, police say
A Ten (10) year old girl of Mumbwa has died after she was defiled by two men of the same family.
The deceased child was found in unconscious state and rushed to the hospital where she later died.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has confirmed the development to Mwebantu in a statement and has identified the suspects as Harry Kandolo aged 25 years and Jack Kandolo aged 20 years both of Makondo Village in Chief Kaindu of Mumbwa District .
Katongo said the incident happened on between Sunday at 18:00 hrs and Monday at 11:00 hrs at the same village.
“The victim later died in Mumbwa District Hospital at around 22:00 Hours on 10th August 2020 and the body is in Mumbwa District Mortuary waiting for post-morterm, Katongo revealed.
She said the suspects have been apprehended and are detained in Police custody yet to be charged with murder.
Trade Kings motor vehicle broken into K 98,000 stolen, police arrest three suspects
TWO (02) Zimbabwean nationals and one Zambian have been arrested by police for breaking into a Trade Kings car and stealing cash amounting to K98, 000.
And police have recovered K84, 000 out of the total stolen money and are further still looking for one more suspect who is still on the run.
Police around 11:30 hrs received a report of theft from motor a vehicle from Trade Kings Muchinga, Luapula and Northern regional manager Abbas Hussain aged 46yrs.
“He reported on behalf of the company that unknown persons did steal cash money from the company’s motor vehicle namely Toyota hilux bearing registration no. ALZ 3825 silver in color which was parked at indo Zambia bank along Independence road d/kasama by way of unlocking the drivers door and got away k98,025,” Hussain reported to police.
Acting on the report, the police made a follow up and found the criminals at Mwiluzi along Mbala-Kasama road where they had parked their Honda CRV registration No. ALP 2712 silver gray in color as they were changing a the front tyre.
Upon being challenged, the criminals ran in different direction and in the process, one suspect named Ndlovu Basil Bhekumuzi aged 40yrs of Bulawayo a Zimbabwean national was shot at in his left side of the thigh.
The two other suspects namely Soames Ndlovu aged 32yrs of 133 Matero East Lusaka also a Zimbabwean national based in Bulawayo and Silvester Phiri aged 38yrs of Matero Lusaka were apprehended.
“The suspect who was shot is recieving Medical treatment at kasama General Hospital whilst one suspect namely Amin (Mr Moyo) is on the run,”
Police have since retrieved K84,000 from the suspects and the vehicle which was being used has been impounded and kept as exhibits.
