Chaminuka – A synopsis of Africa

Published

on

With magnificent sunsets on the outskirts of Lusaka, Chaminuka’s design draws inspiration from a Zambian village and started out as the stately home of historian and author, Andrew Sardanis. Numerous guests including revered artists and historical figures have called it home, giving the lodge a rich history. Just a short drive from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, Chaminuka is an indulgent getaway with friendly staff to ensure you enjoy your experience.

The estate and nature reserve cover a sprawling 40 square kilometres with balconied suites providing great views. These suites showcase art from the Sardanis’ private collection of paintings, sculptures and traditional artefacts from all over Africa acquired over 50 years. They can be seen around the lodge and make up one of Zambia’s largest fine art collections. Suites also have a seating area, flat-screen TV with satellite channels and private bathrooms with a bathtub and shower.

If you’re looking for a self-catering experience, there are four fully furnished villas that boast contemporary African themed décor. Full catering at the villas is also an option for those looking to relax.

Over 7,000 animals reside at the lodge and most can be seen during game drives. If you’d like a more personal experience with them, you can get up close during the cheetah walk, lion feeding or enjoy a majestic elephant walk. Chaminuka also has about 300 species of birds, some native to the land while others are exotic visitors.

Guests can also take a dip in the swimming pool, relax in the spa and wellness facilities or socialise in the shared bar and lounge area. Horse riding and a sunset boat cruise are also great ways to unwind.

Using numerous organic and locally grown products, Chaminuka’s food is a combination of the best international cuisine infused with Zambian influences to create delicious culinary experiences. Meals range from barbeque buffets to mixtures of European, Eastern Mediterranean and Oriental Cuisine. Chaminuka is also a producer of award-winning cheeses and the lodge’s artistic grotto is the perfect backdrop to sample the various cheeses.

Chaminuka is ideal for couples, families or even the solo traveller. You can spend the day at Chaminuka for only 675 Kwacha or spend the night for 1,650 Kwacha and have all the following included:

  • Buffet lunch for day visitors and all inclusive meals for overnight guests.
  • A game drive where you can even spot antelopes found only in Zambia.
  • Wine and cheese tasting with our award winning cheeses.
  • A soothing horse ride suitable even for beginners.
