2020 MultiChoice Talent Factory Academy Masterclasses kicks-off

THE Southern Africa Region – MultiChoice Talent Factory Academy (MTFA) has commenced its Masterclasses for 2020 with a class in Sound 5.1 with Dolby. These Masterclasses are in response to the oversubscribed and highly popular Dolby Masterclasses conducted last year.

As part of the MTF Academy’s tailor-made curriculum, the Masterclasses will be presented from January to May 2020 by leading African and international film and TV industry experts. These Masterclasses are open to industry professionals with focus on Documentary Filmmaking, Lighting, Sound, Directing of Actors, Multicamera, Production Management, and the Business of Film, among others.

Berry Lwando, who is the Academy Director for the Southern Region MTFA says based on the success of 2019’s inaugural MTF Masterclasses, it was important to continue the second touchpoint of the MTF shared-value initiative, to reinforce MultiChoice Africa’s long-term commitment to igniting Africa’s creative industries.

This year’s Masterclasses will feature in-depth instruction from experts including award winning veteran South African director and producer Bobby Heaney for Multicamera techniques and director Denny Miller whose career spans over 25 years with shows such as classic television series Egoli – Place of Gold and Moments with Mo under his belt. In addition, Lights, Camera, Diaspora! founder Christian Epps will share his expertise on Lighting. Epps’s work is featured in notable American films and TV shows such as the 2014 historic Martin Luther King Jr. film Selma, 2012 drama Middle of Nowhere, and upcoming HBO TV series Lovecraft Country.

UNZA Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr. Tamala Kambikambi appointed to the Board of the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA) for a period of three (3) years

HIGHER Education Minister Dr Brian Mushimba has appointed University of Zambia (UNZA) Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr Tamala Kambikambi as Board member of the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA) Management Board.

Dr Kambikambi will join a group of other distinguished and eminent Zambians to provide strategic direction to the qualifications authority as Board member.

In a letter of appointment, the minister stated that Dr Kambikambi will serve for a tenure period of three years in accordance with the provisions of the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA) Act number 201.

This is according to a statement issued by UNZA Acting Head of Public Relations Dr Brenda Bukowa.

Some areas to be affected by longer load-shedding than others in the next few days, ZESCO Limited says

ZESCO Limited has announced that some areas will experience longer load shedding hours in the next few days due to a technical failure at one of the National Grid units which has resulted into the loss of 130 megawatts of power.
ZESCO Public Relations Manager Hazel Zulu disclosed in a statement that there is a loss of 130MW of power from the national grid caused by a technical failure on one power supply unit.
Zulu said because of the deficit, there may be variations in adherence to the current load shedding hours until  at a time when the situation will be normalized.
She also assured customers that that the corporation is working round the clock to assess the impact of the deficit.
